Preventing Lung Cancer
Lung Cancer is a serious illness. It is responsible for more cancer fatalities in men and women than any other form of Cancer. However, Lung Cancer is the most preventable form of cancer. As it is recommended that people should wear sun block to protect themselves from the UV cancer causing rays, people should take just as much precaution to prevent Lung Cancer. There is one way in particular that people may adequately protect themselves from this disease and that is to avoid smoking.
Whether it is cigarettes, cigars, or pipes, smoking causes Lung Cancer. Lung Cancer develops when the lungs are repeatedly exposed to cancer causing agents. One of the main ways that this occurs is by inhaling toxic smoke and letting that smoke saturate the lungs. The more smoke that is inhaled, the longer the person has been smoking, and the frequency of smoke all contribute to the chances of developing Lung Cancer. The best way to prevent Lung Cancer is to never smoke. If you are a smoker, then you should quit smoking immediately.
Some people believe that cigar or pipe smoking is ok- they are mistaken. Cigar and pipe smoking are the direct cause of Lung Cancers, just as cigarette smoking is. There is simply no safe way to smoke. In fact, smoking is so dangerous to your health that just being around smoke can increase the risk of developing Lung Cancer. When someone smokes, they are not only increasing their own risks of developing Lung Cancer, but they are also posing a threat to those around them. People who live in households with second hand smoke have a 50% greater risk of developing Lung Cancer than non-smokers and those who aren’t subjected to second hand smoke.
Another form of Lung Cancer develops after repeated exposure to the mineral Asbestos. It is called, “Mesothelioma”. Therefore, it is imperative that one avoids contact with Asbestos to prevent developing Lung Cancer. Today, people are aware of the serious implications exposure to Asbestos can cause. If you must work with Asbestos, you should wear all safety clothes and gear, and practice safety precautions to ensure that you are adequately protected from this terrible form of Lung Cancer.
Another cause of Lung Cancer is the gas Radon. Many homes may have Radon present while the homeowners are never aware that they are living surrounded by this toxic substance. To prevent developing Lung Cancer from exposure to Radon, it is a wise idea to have your home tested.
It is a good idea to eat a diet rich in vitamins and minerals to help lower your risk of developing Lung Cancer. You should have good healthy habits and practices, sleep right, get plenty of daily exercise, and live a stress free life to remain in the best physical condition possible. If you live in an area that has a high level of pollution, you may want to lower your risk of developing Lung Cancer by moving to an area without pollution. By incorporating all of these steps, you can make sure that you have done your best to prevent acquiring Lung Cancer.
